No U.S. National Team Director Candidate Chosen
By Phillip Whitten
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo., Feb. 11. THE National Team Director advisory search committee met last weekend… and was unable to come up with a recommendation.
The eight person committee — five coaches and three athletes — met in Chicago and conducted interviews with the four finalists but could not come to a consensus on its top choice to fill the post vacated by Dennis Pursley last month.
The committee will retain its charge to recommend a candidate to fill the post though no deadline has been set for it to make its recommendation.
Today, USA Swimming Executive Director issued the following official statement:
"The National Team Director Selection Committee has yet to come to consensus on a final candidate and the search process if ongoing. National Team operations will continue according to the quadrennial plan that has already been established.
"Everett Uchiyama, Interim National Team Director, will
continue to coordinate and oversee the day-to-day operations of the National Team Division; and Jim Wood, Chair of the National Steering Committee will
continue to provide oversight and counsel.
"We anticipate no disruption in National Team activities, programs and services.
"The Selection Committee will retain its charge to make a recommendation to the executive director, and no deadline has been set for the delivery of this recommendation."
