Nittany Lions Keep Tori Howard In-State; YMCA National Finalist Verbals to Penn State for 2021
NEW COMMIT: Downington, Pa. native Tori Howard has opted to remain in-state for her college career and has sent her verbal commitment to Penn State beginning in the fall of 2021.
She will join Molly Pedersen, Molly Carson, Shelby Kahn, Marly Lough, Maura Fluehr and Mac Sullivan in State College as members of the Nittany Lions’ class of 2025.
She told Swimming World:

A talented backstoker, Howard does her club swimming with Upper Main Line YMCA and is a Junior National qualifier. She competed in both backstroke events at Juniors East in December and placed 10th in the 100 back at YMCA SCY Nationals in April 2019. Last summer, she registered seventh-place showings in both the 50m back and 100m back at YMCA LCM Nationals.
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.51
- 100 back – 55.29
- 200 back – 2:02.33
- 50 free – 24.30
Also competing for Downington West High School, Howard is a three-time Pennsylvania 3A State Championship finalist. She finished 14th in the 100 back as a junior while taking 11th in that event during her sophomore season. She also finished eighth in her signature event at the PIAA District 01 meet in 2020 and fifth in 2019.
