NEW COMMIT: Texas A&M has gained a new in-state verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from versatile Vincent Ribeiro. A South African native, his family moved to Round Rock, Texas, when he was eight years old.

Ribeiro, who swims year-round with Nitro Swimming, owns 10 Winter Junior standards. He most recently competed at College Station Speedo Sectionals where his highest finish was a fourth-place showing in the 200 IM. At Juniors West in December, he took 17th in the 200 IM and 19th in the 400 IM after earning bronze in the latter at Rochester Futures this past summer.

Also competing for Round Rock High School, Ribeiro is a five-time Texas UIL 6A State Championship finalist. He won the 200 IM and was the 100 breast runner-up as a junior after finishing third and eighth, respectively, in those events during his sophomore season. He has also earned both NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for his efforts.

He told Swimming World:

“I’m extremely honored to announce my commitment to Texas A&M University to pursue my academic and swimming career. I was welcomed with an amazing family culture by the team and the coaches on my visit. I’d like to thank my family, coaches, teammates, and friends for guiding and supporting me through this journey. Gig ’em”

His best times include:

  • 200 IM – 1:47.98
  • 400 IM – 3:55.37
  • 200 fly – 1:51.54
  • 100 breast – 55.66
  • 200 breast – 2:02.80
  • 500 free – 4:31.00
  • 1650 free – 15:40.40

Ribeiro’s versatility will be extremely beneficial to the Aggies, and he could find himself in a number of different events. Although he’s just outside of scoring range at the SEC Championships, Ribeiro has continuously made improvements each season with well over a year to go before arriving in College Station.
