AUSTIN, Texas, September 25. Nitro Swimming’s Mason Tenney will not have far to move when he goes to college next year as he just committed to his hometown Texas Longhorns today.
Tenney, the third-ranked recruit in the State of Texas by CollegeSwimming.com, provides head coach Eddie Reese with some immediate impact in the butterfly with a 1:47.47 in the 200-yard fly from this year’s sectionals back in February.
Tenney also has a proven track record in long course events with a 54.85 in the 100-meter fly and a 2:06.00 in the 200-meter fly from this summer’s junior nationals in Irvine.
Also look for Tenney to provide versatility across the board for the Longhorns with a 48.83 in the 100-yard fly, a 16:40.26 in the 1500-meter free and an 8:44.29 in the 800-meter free being his other highly-ranked personal bests.
He may not be able to do much for Texas in the all-important sprint freestyles at this point in time with a 46.78 in the 100-yard free on his resume, but he has an entire season to continue to make some time drops in that area.
