NISCA Releases 2022-23 Academic All-America Lists

Each year, NISCA honors high school senior swimmers with at least a 3.75 GPA accompanying their accomplishments in the pool. This year’s list honors 2000 from 38 states, the fourth-highest total in the award’s history dating back to the 1986-87 school year.

The most honorees hail from Texas, with 297 total award winners (149 girls and 148 boys), with Michigan (200), Minnesota (129), Indiana (124) and Ohio (122) rounding out the top five. One of those Indiana swimmers was Will Modglin, the reigning National High School Swimmer of the Year and the country’s top swimmer in the 100-yard back.

There were at least 50 swimmers from Georgia, Pennsylvania, New York, Illinois, California, Tennessee, Washington, Kansas and Colorado In the award’s 37-year history, a total of 50,363 certificates have been awarded to 29,193 girls and 21,170 boys.

NISCA previously honored its top-performing swimmers of the year. Four swimmers earned the No. 1 spot in two different events this year: Stone Ridge’s Erin Gemmell led the way in the women’s 100 and 200 freestyle while Santa Margarita’s Teagan O’Dell was in the top spot in the 200 IM and 100 backstroke. On the men’s side, Aaron Shackell topped the 200 free and 500 free while Maximus Williamson was first in the 200 IM and 100 free. Those All America lists can be viewed here.
