The St. Xavier boys collected their 29th straight Kentucky high school state title on Saturday afternoon. The team was powered by three relay wins and a number of strong individual performances.
St. Xavier started the finals session by lowering their own state record in the 200 medley relay. Martin Kitzken, Keefer Barnum, Conner Kang, and Michael Eastman clocked a 1:32.31, just .03 faster than last year’s quartet went.
Lex. Catholic’s Matt Menke, Thomas Strother, Zach Hils, and Scott Scanlon claimed silver (1:33.48). Bowling Green completed the podium with the team of Neal Morsi, Hunter Eaton, Garrett Strickler, and Dylan Taylor going a 1:36.55.

The old mark was a 1:37.93 swum in 2013 by Max Williamson of Cov. Catholic. Cov. Catholic’s Nick Smith was second in 1:38.29. Johnston’s teammate Cole Brown picked up bronze in 1:40.95.

Holy Cross’ Gus Staubitz dominated the one meter diving event with 432.90 points. Highlands’ Finn Murphy was second (289.35) and Bowling Green’s Conner Twyman (385.40) finished third.
Christian Academy’s Nicolas Albiero then finally got his chance to race. The senior lowered his own 100 butterfly state record with a 46.29 to win the event by over four seconds. Ky. Country Day’s Misha Semenov was runner up (50.73) while Brown (51.21) placed third.

Tapp swept the sprint freestyle events, taking the 100 in record fashion. Tapp was a 44.65, just faster than Thomas Cooper‘s 44.71. Cooper also swam for Trinity. Tarvest was again second, only a tenth from the record. Hils finished third (45.00). That is a sophomore trio, set up for two more years of tight racing.
