U.S. Olympic Trials: 46 Pool Swimmers Heading to Paris Olympics (Full Roster)

At the conclusion of the U.S. Olympic Trials, USA Swimming has announced the roster of swimmers who will represent the Stars and Stripes at next month’s Paris Olympics.

The Olympic team will include one swimmer heading to her fourth Olympics as Katie Ledecky won the 200, 400, 800 and 1500 freestyle at Trials while female swimmers heading to their third Games include breaststroker Lilly King  plus sprint freestylers Simone Manuel and Abbey Weitzeil. Two-time Olympians on the women’s side include Regan SmithKate DouglassTorri Huske, Alex Walsh, Katie GrimesPhoebe BaconPaige Madden and Erika Connolly.

For the men, Caeleb Dressel, Ryan MurphyChase Kalisz and Blake Pieroni are the squad’s three-timers while Hunter ArmstrongNic FinkBobby FinkeRyan HeldDrew Kibler and Kieran Smith are heading back to the Games. Held is the only swimmer to return to the Olympics this year after missing out on qualification in 2021.

While Ledecky is qualified for three individual events in Paris, she has stated she will likely drop the individual 200 free, although she will remain part of the 800 free relay. That would put Madden into the 200 free individual event along with the 400 and 800 free. Douglass has the 100 free, 200 breast and 200 IM, and Smith swims both backstroke events plus the 200 fly. Other multi-event swimmers include Huske in the 100 fly and 100 free, Gretchen Walsh in the 100 fly and 50 free, King in both breaststroke events and Grimes in the 1500 free and 400 IM.

The busiest swimmer on the men’s side will be Chris Guiliano, who is set to race the 50, 100 and 200 free in addition to a pair of freestyle relays and likely a prelims or finals leg of the 400 medley relay. Murphy is qualified in both backstroke events, and Finke races the 800 and 1500 free. Dressel has the 50 free and 100 fly while newcomer Thomas Heilman will swim the 100 and 200 fly.

In addition to these swimmers, Grimes and Mariah Denigan will represent the U.S. in the 10-kilometer open water swim while Ivan Puskovitch has qualified on the men’s side.
