Florent Manaudou posted 21.52 in the prelims of the men’s 50 free on day five of the French Championships in Chartres.

It was a season’s best for the 33-year-old as he seeks to reach the Olympic dash podium for the fourth straight Games.

Maxime Grousset, who scorched to 47.33 over 100 free, was next home in 21.66, the third-swiftest of his career with both men well inside the 21.96 cut.

The men’s 200m backstroke looks set to be a real tussle with the four fastest qualifiers separated by 0.17.
