Newly-Minted Olympian Eric Shanteau Has Testicular Cancer

AUSTIN, Texas, July 11. ERIC Shanteau wasn't just battling Scott Spann and Brendan Hansen in the 200-meter breaststroke at the U.S. Olympic Trials as he helped pull off the biggest upset of the meet with former world-record holder Hansen taking fourth in the event.
According to an exclusive interview with the Associated Press, just released today, Shanteau was also battling the news that he has testicular cancer.
According to the report, "Shanteau said he learned just a week before the Olympic trials in Omaha, Neb., that he had cancer. His doctors cleared him to compete in that meet…"
Shanteau has also stated that he's made the choice to put off surgery until he competes in the 2008 Beijing Games.
