Newburgh Sea Creatures’ Kaitlyn Porter Will Become a South Carolina Gamecock in 2020
NEW COMMIT: The University of South Carolina has received another verbal commitment for the fall of 2020 from Newburgh, Ind. native Kaitlyn Porter.
The Gamecocks have been on top of their recruiting game for next fall, snagging three in-state recruits in Emma Sullivan, Gabi Reed and Riley Parker who will join Porter next fall.
Porter does her club swimming with the Newburgh Sea Creatures and owns a trio of Winter Junior time standards. She most recently competed at the Indiana Senior SCY Championships where she was the runner-up in the 200 fly and 400 IM with four additional finals appearances. She raced three events at Juniors East this past winter and earned bronze in the 100m fly at the Indiana Senior LCM Championships over the summer.
Also competing for Castle, Porter is a four-time Indiana High School State Championship finalist. She finished sixth in the 100 fly and 12th in the 200 IM as a junior after taking fifth and 14th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season. She has also earned USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honors for her efforts.
She told Swimming World:
“The supportive coaches, close knit team & outstanding academics made the University of South Carolina the perfect place for me to further my academic & swimming career! I plan to study Biochemistry & Molecular Biology after graduating Castle in 2020. I believe it will offer me countless opportunities to become successful, and I cannot wait to be a part of it! Spurs up!”
Her best times include:
- 100 fly – 54.91
- 200 fly – 2:01.03
- 200 IM – 2:04.32
- 400 IM – 4:20.87
When she arrives in Columbia at the start of the 2020-21 season, Porter will join a fly group that’ll include Hallie Kinsey and Emma Otten as well as an IM squad led by Ellie Masterson. Although she’s not in scoring range just yet at the SEC Championships, she has continuously made improvements each season.
