“It honestly went so fast. I’m just proud to be here with my team, finishing off with the girls that I’ve been with for four years. I’m really honored to be given the opportunity to be here,” says one of four senior team captains Amber Amr. She includes how it feels even better to win on Senior Day.

Head Coach Kunio Kono is satisfied with his team’s performance against Colorado State. He says competing at home and Senior Day was advantageous towards the Lobos and gave the team that extra push in crossing a successful finish line. He also credits the winter intercession’s practice and tapering to their win.

Colorado State Press Release

The Colorado State swimming & diving team competed in its first meet of the spring season on Saturday, falling at New Mexico, 174-126.

From top to bottom, CSU had more depth, taking first or second place in 14 of the 16 events, and even taking three of the top four spots in six events. However, the Lobos (3-1) were able to take control early with first-place finishes in the meet’s first six swimming events.

The Rams’ first event win came in the 50 Freestyle, with Katie Kicklighter continuing her dominant freshman campaign with a first-place finish (23.94). Just a few events later, junior Jessica Shepard won the 200 Backstroke with a time of 2:05.94.

On the boards, CSU was incredibly dominant, with junior Ariana Milone winning both springboard events. In 1-Meter, CSU went 1-2-3, with senior Mary Kate Hardy (261.15) and Emily Williams (257.93) finishing second and third, respectively. Milone’s score of 287.03 was the second-best of the season, and among the top 10 scores in school history.

It was a similar finish on the 3-Meter boards, with Milone (310.95) and Hardy (262.05) again finishing first and second, respectively.

Several other athletes scored throughout the meet, showing the team’s depth in each event. In the 1000 Freestyle, Madison Evans, Hailey Spratte and Gabby Morley finished second through fourth. One event later, CSU again went 2-3-4, with Colleen Olson, Teagan Griffith and Karin Roh scoring in the 200 Freestyle.
