New Mexico Lands First 2021 Verbal from Colorado 3A State Finalist Caitlin Beery
NEW COMMIT: The University of New Mexico has landed their first verbal commitment for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Denver, Colo. native Caitlin Beery.
She told Swimming World:
“I am SO excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of New Mexico. Thank you to my teammates, my coaches, and my family for supporting me through this process. I can’t wait to spend the next four years as a Lobo! ️ #UNM I choose UNM because of the great academic and athletic opportunities that the school offered me. Also, I loved the girls that I had the opportunity to meet through Zoom. I got the impression that the team environment was one that I would be successful in.”
Beery does her club swimming with University of Denver Hilltoppers and is a Futures qualifier. She recorded three top-10 finishes at the Pioneer Open in December and had a strong showing at Federal Way Sectionals in March 2019. Last summer, she registered six best times at Mount Hood Sectionals.
Her best times include:
- 200 IM – 2:11.46
- 400 IM – 4:30.59
- 500 free – 5:08.68
- 1000 free – 10:31.95
- 1650 free – 17:30.62
- 100 breast – 1:07.51
Also competing for Thomas Jefferson High School, Beery is a six-time Colorado 3A State Championship finalist. She finished second in the 500 free and third in the 100 breast as a junior while taking third in the 500 free and fourth in the 200 IM during her sophomore season.
Beery will add valuable depth when she suits up for the Lobos as a member of the class of 2025. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 400 IM at the 2020 Mountain West Conference Championships where New Mexico finished eighth overall in the team standings.
