Nebraska Omaha Collects Set of Verbal Commitments from Heidi Lenarz, Hailey Matthews

NEW COMMITS: The University of Nebraska, Omaha has picked up their first two verbal commitments for the 2021-22 season and beyond from Sartell, Minn. native Heidi Lenarz and Hailey Matthews of Englewood, Colo.

Both talented swimmers will arrive on campus as members of the Mavs’ Class of 2025.

She told Swimming World:

“I am super excited to announce my verbal commitment to study and swim division 1 at the University of Nebraska-Omaha! Thank you so much to my family, friends, and coaches for helping me to get to this point. I am so excited to be part of such an amazing team! Go Mavs!!”

Lenarz, who does her club swimming with Central Minnesota Aquatics, most recently earned three best times at Minnesota Seniors in March. Last summer, she had a great showing at Minnesota LCM Seniors where she recorded six new lifetime bests and placed 11th in the 400m IM and 14th in the 200m IM.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:07.42
  • 400 IM – 4:35.11
  • 500 free – 5:10.36
  • 100 breast – 1:07.21
  • 200 breast – 2:27.90

Also competing for Sartell High School, Lenarz is a four-time Minnesota Class A State Championship finalist. She finished fifth in the 200 IM and sixth in the 500 free as a junior while taking eighth and 12th, respectively, in those events during her sophomore season.

Regarding her commitment, she said:

“I am beyond excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming careers at the University of Nebraska Omaha. I absolutely loved the campus, the amazing pool, the coaches and the team! This is the perfect fit for me! A big thank you to my coaches and family for helping me reach my goals. Go Mavs!”

Matthews trains year-round with Denver Swim Academy and registered six personal bests at the SCI Pioneer Open in December where her highest finish was a fifth-place showing in the 100 free. She also raced to 10th place in the 1500m free at Colorado LCM Seniors last summer.

Her best times include:

  • 100 free – 52.72
  • 200 free – 1:53.28
  • 500 free – 5:11.63
  • 200 back – 2:07.90

Currently a senior at Grandview High School, Matthews finished fifth in the 200 free at the Colorado 5A State Championships during her junior campaign. She also competed at the state meet as a sophomore.
