NCAA Women’s Championships: Torri Huske Impresses with 49.77; Loaded Field Chasing With Sticklen, Douglass, Curzan, Albiero, Mac Neil
2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships continued from Knoxville, Tennessee, on Friday with the Day 3 prelims session.
The Day 3 prelims session consists of the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke and 100 backstroke.
Here is a look at the 100 butterfly, one of the most loaded events in recent memory on the women’s side.
Stanford sophomore Torri Huske started off the circle-seeded heats with a strong showing. She was out fast and hung on for a 49.77 to hold off Louisville’s Gabi Albiero (50.46) in the heat.
In the second circle-seeded heat, Stanford freshman Claire Curzan held off LSU’s Maggie Mac Neil to finish in 50.45. Mac Neil was second in the head in 50.51.
The final heat of the NCAA prelims saw Virginia’s Kate Douglass go a 50.11 to finish behind Texas’ Emma Sticklen (50.00).
Overall, Huske has the top seed in 49.77, followed by Sticklen (50.00), Douglass (50.11), Curzan (50.45), Albiero (50.46), Mac Neil (50.51), Ohio State’s Katherine Zenick (50.84) and NC State’s Kylee Alons (50.85).
Who gave their fastest race to get into the NCAA finals? Who still has some left in the tank?
Six of the top eight have a serious shot at contending for this title, more than any event we have seen so far this season.
