NCAA Women’s Championships: Gretchen Walsh, Gabi Albiero Lead Stacked 100 Freestyle
The 2023 NCAA Division I Women’s Championships continued with the prelims of the 100 freestyle.
Another one of the most stacked and most anticipated races of the meet, it was full of swimmers who have already had showdowns in the 50 freestyle and 100 butterfly.

There were a few fast times from the non-circle-seeded heats, but Stanford’s Torri Huske took the first circle-seeded heat in 47.19.
The next heat was even faster as defending champion Gretchen Walsh of Virginia, scorched a 46.66, just ahead of NC State’s Katharine Berkoff in 46.91.
The final heat saw Gabi Albiero take the win in 46.88, while LSU’s Maggie Mac Neil was next in 46.90, setting up a stellar and completely stacked top eight.
Walsh had the overall top seed in 46.66 with just seven tenths of a second separating the first and eighth seeds in the finals.
Albiero took the second seed in 46.88, followed by Mac Neil (46.90), Berkoff (46.91) and Huske (47.19).
Louisville got its other top sprinter into the finals as well with Christiana Regenauer earning the sixth seed in 47.33.
Ohio State junior Katherine Zenick was seventh (47.34), while Hawaii fifth-year Laticia-Leigh Transom earned the eighth seed (47.39) but three hundredths over Virginia’s Maxine Parker.
