NCAA Men’s Championships: Arizona State, California Even on Finals Swimmers (Night 4 Up-Downs)

Arizona State enters the final day of the 2024 NCAA Men’s Championships with a 56.5-poitn lead on California. Both schools, in their farewell letter to Pac-12 swimming, have six A finalists and nine total swimmers on Saturday night.

That’s the equation for the final night at the IUPUI Natatorium. California is in good position to finish in the top two for the 14th straight year. Arizona State is looking for its first title in what would be a massive change in the NCAA hierarchy.

Cal has two top seeds at night, with Dare Rose in the 200 butterfly and Destin Lasco in the 200 back. ASU has the favorite in the 200 breast in Leon Marchand, the NCAA record holder.

The final session will also include the 1,650 free. Arizona State has the top seed there in Zalan Sarkany, who is 12 seconds ahead of anyone else. Daniel Matheson is 12th and could score. Cal’s best swimmer is 36th-place Tyler Kopp.

Arizona State does not have a diver. Cal has two, and one, in Joshua Thai, scored in 14th last year. The meet ends with the 400 free relay. Arizona State, fresh off its first relay win in the 400 medley on Friday, is the top seed. Cal is sixth.
