Men’s 1-meter diving

UIndy gets a boost in the points thanks to Julio Osuna Kelly repeating as the diving champion. He scored 602.50 points to easily pull away from the field and put a scare into the hallowed record of 618.70 set by Oakland’s Dario DiFazio way back in 1994.

Osuna Kelly, a junior, was 80 points clear of runner-up Zachary Schering of Clarion, who beat a crowd to silver. His 521.00 edged Delta State’s Santiago Santodomingo by less than four points. Schering was sixth in this event last year. Charles Earl of Drury was fourth in 511.25, switching places from last year with fifth-place Isaiah Cheeks of Colorado Mesa. It was 50 points back from fifth to sixth.

Jason Lenzo, the runner-up last year to teammate Osuna Kelly, finished 10th.

Women’s 200 medley relay

Lynn turned in a thrilling race to hold off Nova Southeastern and to earn a gold medal in 1:40.14. Lynn jumped to the lead with Luna Mertins’ leg of 23.57 on the butterfly leg, and Alexa Lundell held off a late Nova Southeastern charge. Laura Dekoninck led off, and Malaika Schneider followed.

Nova, which won the opening 800 free relay, finished second in 1:40.37, despite Maya Esparza coming home in 22.56. Colorado Mesa was third in 1:40.51, just .02 up on Findlay.

With Drury sixth, Nova Southeastern finishes the second day of the meet ahead y 30.5 points, though it’s better than the DQ that Drury stomached in this race last year.

Men’s 200 medley relay

UIndy set a national record, the time of 1:24.46 clipping a clean half-second off the mark set by Drury in 2021. Jeron Thompson, Brayden Cole, Oskar Sawicky and Aqueel Joseph comprised the foursome. Cole’s breaststroke split of 23.59 was the fastest in the field. Sawicki and Thompson weren’t far behind the leaders in their legs, and Joseph closed in 19.31.

McKendree’s Mario Perez brought the race home in 19.10 to keep them in the mix. Findlay finished second, with a 20.15 from Camilo Marrugo Montano in fly. Lamar Taylor, off the 50 free DQ, went out in 21.28, the fastest backstroke leg to help Henderson State finish fourth. Drury, last year’s champ, finished fifth while meet leader Tampa was eighth.
