NCAA Division I Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships: USC’s Katinka Hosszu Defends Title in 200 Fly

AUBURN, Alabama, March 17. SOUTHERN California's Katinka Hosszu defended her title from 2011 with a victorious effort in the 200 fly at the NCAA Division I Women's Championnships.
Hosszu raced to 1:51.32 for the win, faster than the 1:51.69 she used to win the event in 2011. Tonight's effort is the seventh best in the event's history, but well back of Hozzsu's third-ranked lifetime best of 1:51.02 from December 2010.
Texas A&M's Cammile Adams placed second in 1:52.40, while Tennessee's Kelsey Floyd took third in 1:54.28. California's Sara Isakovic (1:54.38), Southern California's Tanya Krisman (1:54.64), Texas A&M's Caroline McElhany (1:55.23), Arizona's Alyssa Anderson (1:55.50) and Florida's Teresa Crippen (1:55.63) placed fourth through eighth.
West Virginia's Amanda Nugent clocked a 1:55.17 for the top consolation heat time. Louisville's Tanja Kylliainen (1:55.23), Texas A&M's Rita Medrano (1:55.75), UCLA's Yasi Jahanshahi (1:55.95), Southern California's Amanda Smith (1:56.32), California's Shelley Harper (1:56.32), Penn State's Chelsea Weedman (1:56.98) and Virginia's Alison Haulsee (1:58.80) comprised the rest of the B final.
California built a comfortable lead with 370.5 points after the event, while Georgia stood second with 334 points. Southern California jumped into third with a huge event for 296.5 points. Stanford (278) and Arizona (269) remained in a battle for third.
