NCAA Division I Women’s Champs: Southern California’s Rebecca Soni Snares 100 Breast Crown
COLUMBUS, Ohio, March 21. WITH plenty of company throughout the race, Southern California's Rebecca Soni dropped the hammer in the final 25 yards to lay claim to the 100 breast title at the NCAA Division I Women's Championships.
Soni, who dropped a 59.19, just off her personal-best effort of 58.98, captured the Women of Troy's first title in the history of the event. Soni had set the 58.98 lifetime best at the Long Beach Grand Prix last month.
Minnesota newcomer Jillian Tyler snuck into second place with a quick time of 59.87, also just shy of her personal-best time of 59.80 set at this pool a month ago during Big Tens.
Arizona's Annie Chandler finished third with a time of 59.98 to complete the top three and those swimmers under 1:00.
Arizona added to its team lead with 271 total points, while Auburn was second with 206 points. Texas A&M (193), Stanford (183) and California (156) owned third through fifth after the event.
