Southern California edged NC State for the men’s 400-yard free relay title to close out the NCAA Division I Men’s Championships.
USC’s Cristian Quintero, Santo Condorelli, Ralf Tribuntsov and Dylan Carter put up a time of 2:47.06 for the victory. Meanwhile, NC State’s Ryan Held, Simonas Bilis, Soeren Dahl and David Williams took second in 2:47.14.
That’s just a .08 second difference, but doesn’t break the NCAA record for the closest 400-yard free relay in men’s NCAA history.
Texas downed Auburn in 1981 by just .03 seconds, 2:54.84 to 2:54.87.
California’s Tyler Messerschmidt, Seth Stubblefield, Fabio Gimondi and Ryan Murphy earned third overall in 2:48.15.
That’s USC’s ninth victory in the 400-yard free relay.
