Alabama’s Kristian Gkolomeev joined Alabama assistant coach Jonty Skinner as an NCAA victor in the 100-yard free at the NCAA Division I Men’s Championships.
Gkolomeev put up a top time of 41.56 for the win, just the second time a man from Alabama has won the title in NCAA history.
The other man happens to be Skinner, who claimed the title back in 1975 – 40 years ago. Skinner put up a 43.927 for the win back then.
Gkolomeev tied with Arizona’s Brad Tandy for the 50-yard free title last year, and can now lay claim to a title of his own this year.
Gkolomeev moved up to ninth in the all-time history of the event with his swim.
NC State’s Simonas Bilis placed second in 41.78, while Southern California’s Cristian Quintero took home third overall in 42.18.
