NCAA Div. I Women: No. 4 Stanford Upends No. 2 UCLA, 168-132
STANFORD, Calif., Jan. 26. THE fourth-ranked
Stanford women's swimming and diving team defeated No. 2 UCLA, 168-132, this afternoon at the Avery Aquatic Complex on the Stanford campus. The victory avenged an upset loss to the Bruins last year.
Stanford's Misty Hyman posted wins in the 200 free (1:48.46), 200 fly (1:57.20) and 100 fly (53.55) to lead the Cardinal. Teammate Shelly Ripple took first in the 200 back (2:01.19) and 200 IM (2:03.14) while Jessica Foschi won both the 1000 free (10:04.29) and 500 free (4:48.83).
Tara Kirk also had a solid meet for Stanford taking top honors in the 100 breast in 1:00.65, the nation's second fastest time this year, and the 200 breast
(2:14.33) on the afternoon.
The relay team of Megan Baumgartner, Kirk, Hyman and
Siobhan Cropper gave the Cardinal the win in the 200 medley (1:41.82) to open the dual meet.
Stanford divers McKenze Murphy (192.15) and Erin Sones (184.2) finished 1-2 in the one-meter event while
Cardinal Alexis Sowa placed second on the three-meter with a score of 186.75. Sones finished third in the same event with a 185.30.
UCLA's Sara Platzer picked up ictories in the 50 (23.54) and 100 (51.33) free to lead the Bruins. Diver Heidi Prosser won the three-meter event with a score of 209.45.
