NCAA Div. I Men: Florida State Beats ACC Foe N.C. State
RALEIGH, N.C., Jan. 10. THE No. 25 Florida State men’s swimming and diving team remained undefeated in the Atlantic Coast Conference with a 137-106 defeat over host NC State on Friday night. The Seminoles (8-2, 2-0 ACC) defeated the Wolfpack in eight of the 13 events.
Sophomore diver Louie Gagnet led the Seminole attack on the ‘Pack with victories on the one- and three-meter springboards. Gagnet took first-place on the one-meter with a score of 311.25 and later scored 344.7 points to win the three-meter.
The Tribe swept the relay events against NC State by taking both the 400-medley and 400-free relays. Seniors Nnamnse Ammons and Joey Marshburn teamed with junior Fernando Jacome and freshman Joel Roycik to win the 400-free relay at 3:03.25. In the 400-medley, Ammons joined fellow senior Devin Crock, junior Wickus Nienaber and freshman Chris Vythoulkas in a first-place finish of 3:23.14.
Ammons added an individual victory by winning the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 46.09. Marshburn turned in a winning time of 20.74 to earn first-place honors in the 50-free. The seniors ruled the water once more when Crock touched the wall first in the 200-butterfly at 1:52.10.
Rounding out the wins for the Seminoles was Jacome, who won the 200-free with a time of 1:40.78.
The Seminoles will remain in North Carolina to take on an ACC powerhouse in No. 14 ranked UNC and Big East power Rutgers on Saturday at noon in Chapel Hill.
