NC State Wins Every Event Against UNC-Wilmington on Senior Day

The North Carolina State swimming and diving teams wrapped up their dual-meet campaign with a dominant home performance against UNC-Wilmington, a team led by former Wolfpack assistant coach Bobby Guntoro. NC State won every event contested while winning 181-89 on the women’s side and 172-104 among the men. And as the Wolfpack honored senior swimmers and divers, four of them set NC State pool records.

In Katharine Berkoff’s final home meet after five seasons with the college program, she set a pool mark of 1:50.94 to win the 200 backstroke, and on the men’s side, Noah Bowers clocked 1:41.26 in the 200 butterfly, and Noah Henderson put up a mark of 19.13 in the 50 freestyle. Finally, Conall Monahan swam a time of 1:55.54 in the 200 breaststroke to beat a pool record set by a three-time NCAA champion in the event, Will Licon.

In other results for the NC State women, Yara Nierath placed first in the 200 free (1:48.99) and 200 IM (2:01.37) while Abby Arens was victorious in the 50 free (22.31) and 200 breast (2:11.31). Abby Pilkenton led the way in the 100 back (54.51) before Aubree Brouwer topped the 100 breast (1:01.73) and Grace Sheble won the 200 fly (1:57.31). Katherine Helms was first in the 100 free (49.36), and Emma Hastings swam a swift time of 4:41.51 to win the 500 free.

Keelan Cotter won the 100 fly (53.41) while diving wins went to Helene Synnott on 1-meter (303.75) and 3-meter (320.78). The team of Miriam Sheehan, Arens, Tyler Driscoll and Meghan Donald won the 200 medley relay (1:36.99), and the meet concluded with Annabel CrushCasaundra Moses, Driscoll and Sheehan winning the 200 free relay (1:30.53).

In the men’s meet, freshman Daniel Diehl continued his immediate impact upon joining the Wolfpack at midseason as he won the 100 breast (53.24) and 100 free (43.33). Veteran Hunter Tapp was the winner in the 200 free (1:35.26), followed by Hudson Williams winning the 100 back (46.18) and Mikey Moore taking the 200 back (1:46.85). Lance Norris topped the 500 free (4:17.00), with Drew Salls (100 fly), JT Ewing (200 IM, 1:46.80) also earning swimming wins while Renato Calderaro swept diving (3-meter, 433.88; 1-meter, 409.50).

Aiden HayesQuintin McCartyKacper Stokowski and Henderson blasted a time of 1:23.94 to win the 200 medley relay, with Henderson splitting 18.72 on the way home, while a showdown between two strong Wolfpack squads in the 200 free relay went to Henderson, Luke Miller, Hayes and Tapp in 1:16.94. Miller split 18.71 on that relay while McCarty went 18.68 on the B squad.
