NC State Sweeps Relays on Day One of Men’s ACC Championships

The 2016 Men’s ACC Swimming Championships began Wednesday night in Greensboro. The meet got off to a fast start, as NC State made a statement by winning both relays.

200 Medley Relay
The NC State relay team of Hennessey Stuart (21.22), Derek Hren (23.54), Simonas Bilis (20.27), and Ryan Held (18.16) won the first event of the meet in a time of 1:23.19. This is the Wolfpack’s third-straight ACC title in the event, and their time broke the meet, conference, and pool record of 1:23.78 set by NC State in 2014.
Louisville’s Grigory Tarasevich (21.28), Carlos Claverie (23.55), Josh Quallen (20.51), and Trevor Carroll (18.67) took second in 1:24.01. North Carolina’s Nicolas Graesser (21.24), Kurt Wohlrab (23.78), Sam Lewis (20.26), and Logan Heck (19.42) finished third in 1:24.70.
800 Free Relay
NC State’s team of Held (1:33.60), Bilis (1:32.63), Justin Ress (1:34.33), and Soren Dahl (1:32.20) dominated the final relay of the night, winning by over two seconds due to a strong anchor leg by Dahl. Their time of 6:12.76 broke their own meet record and was just off their own conference record. This was their third-straight ACC title in the event.
Louisville’s Carroll (1:33.63), Matthias Lindenbauer (1:33.86), Tarasevich (1:32.39), and Jonathan Zoucha (1:35.08) finished second in 6:14.96. Virginia’s Austin Quinn (1:35.14), Nicholas Magana (1:36.64), Bryce Keblish (1:36.33), and Peter Georgiadis (1:34.48) took third in 6:22.59.
