NC State Earns Verbal from Three-Time Virginia Class 2 Winner Ashley Cusano
NEW COMMIT: Ashley Cusano of Big Stone Gap, Va. has verbally committed to North Carolina State University and will arrive in Raleigh as a member of the class of 2024.
Cusano, who does her club swimming with Barracuda Swim Club of Northeast Tennessee, is a talented backstroker/butterflyer and owns four Summer Juniors standards. She placed 18th in both the 50 fly and 200 back at NCSAs in March after racing four events at Juniors East in December. Last summer, she recorded a trio of best times at NCSAs where her highest finish was an 11th-place showing in the 100m back.
Also competing for Union High School, Cusano is a four-time Virginia Class 2 State Championship finalist. She won the 100 back/100 fly combo as a junior after placing first in the 100 back as well as second in the 200 IM during her sophomore season.
She told Swimming World:
“I am extremely excited to be a part of such an amazing team atmosphere that will push me everyday in the pool and outside of it. I look forward to be under such a great coaching staff to push me towards my goals. I can’t wait for the next four years.”
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.08
- 100 back – 54.87
- 200 back – 1:57.54
- 50 fly – 24.35
- 100 fly – 54.54
- 200 IM – 2:04.26
When she suits up for NC State at the start of the 2020-21 season, Cusano will add valuable fly and back depth to their lineup. She would’ve scored in the C-final of the 100 fly and 200 back at the 2019 ACC Championships where the Wolfpack earned the team title for the second time in three seasons.
