National Junior Teamer Jillian Cox Verbally Commits to Texas for 2023-24
NEW COMMIT: The University of Texas has received a new in-state verbal commitment for the 2023-24 season and beyond from Olympic Trials qualifier Jillian Cox of Cedar Park, Texas.
She will join Berit Berglund and Erin Gemmell as a member of the Longhorns’ Class of 2027.
She told Swimming World:
“I am so excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and athletic career at the University of Texas. This would not be possible without the support of my coaches, teammates, and family. I am so thrilled to join such an amazing team. Hook ‘em!”
Cox, who is a 2021-22 National Junior Team member, raced the 400m and 800m free at Wave II of Olympic Trials this past summer before going on to win both of those events at the Speedo Summer West Championships. Back in April, she won the 800m free with three other top-5 finishes at the 18&U Cup – Des Moines.
She is currently swimming with Longhorn Aquatics and was selected to attend the 2019 National Select Camp.
Her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:48.82
- 500 free – 4:44.46
- 1000 free – 9:47.54
- 1650 free – 16:24.28
- 400 IM – 4:19.70
Under head coach Carol Capitani, the Longhorns won their 10th-straight Big 12 team title in 2021.
The Longhorns are bringing in an impressive Class of 2026 that includes Emily Carpenter, Sienna Schellenger, Meghan DiMartile, Lydia Jacoby, Chase Davison and Lindsey Hosch.
