National Junior Team Member Isabel Gormley Grants Verbal to Stanford
NEW COMMIT: USA Swimming National Junior Team member Isabel Gormley has given her verbal commitment to Stanford for the 2020-2021 season. She joins big recruits Regan Smith and Lillie Nordmann in the Cardinal class of 2024.
Gormley attends The Brearley School in New York City and is a nine-year member of Asphalt Green Unified Aquatics (AGUA) under head coach David Rodriguez. She holds forty-nine team records for Asphalt Green and nine Metropolitan Swimming LSC records.
Most recently, Gormley was named to USA’s Mel Zajac squad where she won gold in the 400 IM. She also placed third in the 400 freestyle and fourth in the 800 distance.
Last summer, Gormley earned runner-up honors in the 400 IM at Junior Nationals. While this swim put her name on the map, she was no stranger to the national stage. Gormley qualified for her first Olympic Trials in 2016 at the young age of 13 in the 400 IM.
Over the last three years, Gormley has earned World Top 100 Times in the 400 IM, 400 free and 200 IM. She was also named a USA Swimming Scholastic All American in 2018.
Gormley’s Best Times:
- 200 Free – 1:48.08
- 500 Free – 4:45.58
- 200 Fly – 1:58.38
- 200 IM – 1:59.05
- 400 IM – 4:08.80
- 400 Free (LCM) – 4:15.69
- 200 Fly (LCM) – 2:15.22
- 200 IM (LCM) – 2:17.19
- 400 IM (LCM) – 4:45.06
Gormley’s 400 IM is right on pace with that of recently-graduated Leah Stevens (4:08.31) and upcoming junior Hannah Kukurugya (4:08.53). The time would have also earned a 2019 NCAA Championship berth and ranked 34th in the NCAA last season. It took a 4:08.48 to earn a second swim at the NCAA Championships.
She told Swimming World:
“I chose Stanford University because I felt at home the second I walked on campus with the team welcoming us with open arms. Swimming at Stanford has been a dream of mine since I was 10 years old and I still can not believe it’s really happening. I am so excited to work with Coach Greg and Coach Tracy and am so grateful to everyone who helped me along the way!”
