Nathan Adrian Dazzles in Prelims of Los Angeles Invite
Cal’s Nathan Adrian and Trojan Swim Club’s Vlad Morozov faced off again this morning in the 50-meter free during prelims of day three at the Los Angeles Invite. Adrian bested Morozov and the competition with a swift 22.09, only .12 seconds off his world best of 21.97 for 2015. Morozov turned in a 22.68, just over a second off of his 2015 world best of 21.65, for second. Nikita Lobintsev was third with a 22.68.
Sonia Wang finished first in prelims of the women’s 200-meter IM with a 2:17.47. Kim Williams grabbed a close second with a 2:17.83, while Ella Eastin claimed third with a 2:17.85.
Lobintsev posted a 1:51.76 to claim the first-place seed in the men’s 200-meter free. Cal’s Ryan Murphy was a close second with a final time of 1:51.86. Spencer Goodman rounded out the top three with a 1:52.30.
Emma Schoettmer of Tucson Ford Dealers Aquatics and Rami Dvariskyte of Trojan Swim Club kept a close race in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke. Schoettmer was able to pull ahead and best Dvariskyte by .10 seconds, finishing with a time of 2:32.03 over Dvariskyte’s 2:32.13. Emma Schanz was third with a 2:33.00.

[table “” not found /]Steven Stumph triumphed over the competition in prelims of the men’s 200-meter breaststroke, posting a 2:13.44 to claim the first-place seed. Kiosk Kitajiima finished second with a 2:14.19, while Brendan McHugh took third with a 2:15.09.
Margo Geer dominated the women’s 50-meter free with a swift 25.17. Farida Osman was the only other competitor to swim under the 26 second mark with a time of 25.55. Melissa Gates was third with a 26.16.
First in the women’s 400-meter free went to Maddie Meisel and her 4:20.88, a .90 second drop from her entry time of 4:21.78. Riley Spitser took second with a 4:21.21, while Brittany Kampfer rounded out the top three with a 4:21.65.
