NEW COMMIT: Brentwood Tenn. native and rising senior Lauren Hurt has verbally committed to Rice University and will arrive on campus at the start of the 2020-21 season.

Hurt, who swims year-round with Nashville Aquatic Club, owns a pair of Winter Juniors standards and recently had three top-12 finishes at the Southern Premier Invitational in March. She recorded two best times at Juniors East in December and was the 50m back runner-up at the American LCM Championships last summer.

Also competing for Brentwood High School, Hurt is a five-time TISCA Tennessee State Championship finalist and is also a NISCA and USA Swimming Scholastic All-American honoree. She earned bronze medals in both the 100 back and 200 IM as a junior after placing fifth in the 200 free during her sophomore season.

She told Swimming World:

“SO excited to announce my verbal commitment to continue my academic and swimming career at Rice University!! Thank you so much to all my friends, family, and coaches who have supported me along the way! GO OWLS”

Her best times include:

  • 100 back – 55.31
  • 200 back – 2:00.33
  • 50 free – 23.76
  • 100 free – 51.57
  • 200 free – 1:51.01
  • 200 IM – 2:02.79

When she suits up for the Owls as a member of the class of 2024, Hurt will add valuable depth to their IM and backstroke training groups. She would’ve scored in the A-final of the 200 IM and both backstroke events at the 2019 Conference USA Championships where Rice finished second overall in the team standings.
