Apologies – Did not mean to devalue Fran Crippen… meant to say, “One Thing!” that was on the huge list of grievances!
FINA is simply one example of how corrupt, self serving, unaccountable and incompetent most international organizations are. These are all related features because the leadership of organizations like FINA are never directly accountable to the persons that they regulate. When they decide to hold open water races in the polluted filth (like Rio) or to not enforce a rule (like the dolphin kicks off the wall in breaststroke), it is almost impossible for the competitors to change that decision.
But, remember, it’s not just FINA that acts this way. It is almost every international organization. So, when someone suggests that the UN or one of its various committees handle a problem, remember that they will handle it just like FINA handles problems.
