Mixed Relay NAG Records to be Recognized by USA Swimming
The USA Swimming Board of Directors will begin recognizing mixed relay National Age Group (NAG) records this upcoming September, just in time for the start of short course yards (SCY) season, according to minutes from their most recent meeting.
USA Swimming has not yet indicated which of the five potential mixed relays they will recognize, nor have they released any benchmark times for said relays.
The next meeting for the Board of Directors is scheduled for late September and more details are likely to emerge then.
FINA hopped on the mixed relay train back in 2013 when they began tracking world records in September of that year. Since then, the mixed relay world records have tumbled year after year. Currently, the 400 free and 400 medley mixed relays dominate the scene, with the 400 medley mixed relay being added to the Olympic schedule for 2020.
