Missy Franklin announced on Instagram Saturday that she and husband Hayes Johnson are expecting their first child.
Franklin, the five-time Olympic gold medalist, announced her retirement from the sport at the end of 2018 due to recurring back and shoulder issues. She was just 23 at the time but had swum at two Olympics. Franklin remains active in the aquatics community in her philanthropic work and with USA Swimming.
Johnson was an accomplished swimmer at the University of Texas, where he swam at two NCAA championships and at the 2012 Olympic Trials. The couple was married in 2019.
