IOWA CITY, Iowa, September 30. THE University of Missouri’s men’s swim team landed a verbal commitment from two-time Iowa state champion Alex Walton to join next year’s freshman class.

Walton represented Muscatine High School when he won the 100 backstroke state high school titles in 2013 and 2014. He posted a 50.59 to win the 2014 title, then broke the 50-second barrier a month later at the Wisconsin sectionals with a 49.75 swimming for the Iowa City Eels. At the sectional meet, Walton posted a lifetime best 1:46.10 in the 200 backstroke.

“What really jumped out was they take people like me, who have a lot of potential left but aren’t the number one recruits in the nation, and draw that potential out of them,” said Walton in in an article on the QC Varsity website.

Walton also won the Iowa state title in the 200 IM with a 1:53.47.
