Missouri State Earns Verbal from USA Swimming Scholastic All-American Kelly Sego
NEW COMMIT: Batavia, Ill. native Kelly Sego has pledged her verbal commitment to Missouri State University and will suit up for the Bears at the start of the 2020-21 season.
She will also join Ainsley Krug, Sami Romer, Anna Lucas and Anika Lam in Springfield next fall.
Sego swims year-round with Academy Bullets Swim Club and most recently placed 11th in the 50m back at NCSAs after finishing 14th in the 200m IM at Illinois LCM Seniors this past summer. Last winter she earned three best times at Juniors West, finished 13th in the 200 breast at Illinois SCY Seniors, and raced seven events at NCSAs.
Also competing for West Chicago Community, Sego has competed at the Illinois State Championships each of her three high school seasons thus far. The two-time USA Swimming Scholastic All-American placed eighth in the 100 back and ninth in the 200 IM during her junior season.
She told Swimming World:
“I’m excited to announce that I have verbally committed to continue my academic and athletic career at Missouri State University. Stepping on campus and meeting the coaches and team, I knew MSU was the place for me. I’d like to thank everyone who has helped me in the decision. Bear up!”
Her best times include:
- 50 back – 26.21
- 100 back – 55.37
- 200 back – 2:03.33
- 200 IM – 2:05.17
Sego will make an immediate impact for Missouri State starting next season. She would’ve scored in the A-final of both backstroke events as well as the 200 IM at the 2019 Missouri Valley Championship where the Bears earned their third-straight, and 15th overall, conference crown.
