Missouri Leading Big Midway Through Purdue Two-Day Dual
Missouri swimmers won eight events and tied for the win in another to lead a two-day dual meet with Purdue at the halfway point.
The men hold a 126-41 lead after nine of 19 events completed on Friday at the Mizzou Aquatic Center. The women are up 103.5-63.5.
The women’s meet provided the most engrossing single race in the 100 freestyle. It ended in a tie between Missouri’s Sierra Smith and Purdue’s Kendra Brown in 50.19 seconds.
Molly Gowans won the 500 free for the Tigers in a time of 4:51.48, a 1-2 finish with teammate Abbey Taute. Fernanda Goeij and Amy Feddersen went 1-2 in the 200 back, Goeij winning in 1:56.38. Goeij had also been third in the 200 IM.
Purdue made some headway on the women’s side, lead by Maggie Love. She won the 200 individual medley in 2:00.01, then turned around to win the 100 breaststroke in 1:00.81. The Boilermakers finished with a sweep of the 200 butterfly, Lindsay Turner leading the way in 2:00.47.
The men’s side brought a clean sweep for the Tigers. Clement Secchi started it by winning the 200 IM in 1:45.43. Second in that race was Noah Scheuermann, who went 1:46.72 to lead a 1-2 with Luke Davis in the 200 fly.
Ben Louis and Jibran Himsieh went 1-2 in the 500 freestyle, Louis winning in 4:28.89 to nudge his teammate by seven tenths. Ben Patton blasted a 53.96 to lead a sweep in the 100 breast. Jack Dahlgren’s 1:43.38 claimed the 200 back, with teammates Samuel Brown and Mikolaj Malec tying for second. Daniel Wilson claimed the 100 free in 43.85.
Purdue got a win in 1-meter diving thanks to Jordan Rzepka, who scored 379.80 points. Brady Samuels was the runner-up in the 100 free.
