Mission Viejo Freestyler Stella Copeland Lends Verbal to Arizona Wildcats
NEW COMMIT: San Clemente, Calif. native Stella Copeland has handed her verbal commitment to the University of Arizona and will arrive in Tucson in the fall of 2021.
She will join Steffi Beisel and Lexi Duchsherer as a member of the Wildcats’ class of 2025.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I’m very thrilled to announce my verbal commitment to swim and study at the University of Arizona. I would like to thank my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for supporting me throughout the process. I can’t wait to be a Wildcat! #beardown”
A talented freestyler and IMer, Copeland does her club swimming with Mission Viejo Nadadores and owns the Junior National cut in the 400m free. She most recently earned a best time at College Station Sectionals where her highest finish was a seventh-place showing in the mile.
Last summer, she placed seventh in both the 800m free and 1500m free at the LA Invitational before going on to finish eighth and ninth in those events at Mount Hood Futures.
Her best times include:
- 200 free – 1:51.90
- 500 free – 4:54.01
- 1000 free – 10:11.31
- 200 IM – 2:08.68
- 400 IM – 4:26.18
Also competing for San Clemente High School, Copeland is a four-time CIF Southern Division 1 Section Championship finalist. She placed eighth in the 500 free and 12th in the 200 free as a sophomore while taking 23rd and 20th, respectively, in those events during her freshman season.
