Mireia Belmonte delivered a powerful second place finish behind the USA’s Katie Ledecky in finals of the women’s 1500 free.
While Ledecky pushed ahead, leaving the rest of the field in her wake, Belmonte continued on in a European battle with Italy’s Simona Quadarella. Belmonte charged to a silver medal and a new Spanish Record of 15:50.89, downing her own previous record of 15:57.29.
The previous record was posted in 2014 at the European Championships.
