BARCELONA – At the Spanish Short Course National Championships, Mireia Belmonte Garcia continued her amazing year with a world record in the 1500 free.

Belmonte Garcia, who just set a pair of short course world records at the World Short Course Championships in the 200 fly and 400 IM, reclaimed all three longer distance freestyle world records with a 15:19.71 in the 1500 free.

Belmonte Garcia already owned the 400 free (3:54.52) and 800 free (7:59.34) with blistering times at the Berlin stop of the FINA World Cup.

In Spain, she smashed Lauren Boyle’s already controversial world record of 15:22.68 from New Zealand’s short course meet.

Hope the Kazan (’15 Worlds) conducive to her swimming “mile” in addition to whatever events she’ll contest. Her, Boyle, Ledecky and Lotte Friis in same race? Sub 15:00.0!!!

Also I erred in saying Taylor Ruck “only” won two events. Like Stanzyi Moseley she too was a triple gold-medalist, both backstrokes and the 500 free. She was also third, not second in 200 free. Second was Lakeside’s Lauren Pitzer (pr 1:45.67 to Ruck’s pr 1:45.8.)
