NEW COMMIT: The University of Kansas has received a new verbal commitment for the 2022-23 season and beyond from Hutchinson, Minn. native and Futures qualifier Hailey Farrell.

She will join Lydia Lafferty of Watonga, Okla. as a member of the Jayhawks’ Class of 2026.

She told Swimming World:

“I am so incredibly excited to announce my verbal commitment to the University of Kansas to further continue my academic and athletic career!  I could not have made it this far without the help of my family, friends, teammates, and coaches and I thank you all so much.  I’m so happy to be a future Jayhawk!!!! #rockchalk”

A versatile swimmer, Farrell trains year-round with High Tides Swim Club and most recently picked up two best times at Central Zone North Sectionals where her highest finish was a seventh-place showing in the 400 IM.

In Summer 2019, she finaled in the 200m IM at Minneapolis Sectionals before going on to earn a trio of bronze medals at Minnesota LCM Seniors.

Her best times include:

  • 200 IM – 2:04.10
  • 200 free – 1:51.49
  • 500 free – 4:59.15
  • 100 fly – 57.58

Currently a junior at Hutchinson High School, Farrell is a seven-time Minnesota Class A State Championship finalist. She won the 200 IM and 500 free as a sophomore while taking first in the latter and third in the 200 free during her freshman campaign.

She also swam on her team’s winning 4×50 free relay in 2019 that set a new Class A record.

Farrell will add valuable depth on Kansas’s roster next fall when she arrives on campus, as she would’ve been their fifth-fastest 200 IMer this past season. She’s just on the brink of scoring range at the Big 12 Championships where the Jayhawks placed second in the team standings.

Kansas is bringing in an impressive recruiting class for the fall of 2021 that includes Eleni KotzamanisLezli SisungAddi BarnesBrigid GwidtClaire Hyatt, Elliott Howe and Karla Lessing.
