Minnesota State Champ Libbi McCarthy Commits To In-State Golden Gophers
NEW COMMIT: Edina, Minn. native Libbi McCarthy will remain in state for her college career after she verbally committed to the University of Minnesota for Fall 2026. She’s a U.S. Open qualifier.
Regarding her commitment, she said:
“I chose Minnesota because of the amazing team culture, coaches, and great campus. I have been going there for meets for a long time and on my visit I saw how beautiful the campus was and how great the team was and knew it was right for me.”
McCarthy trains year-round with Edina Swim Club and is a talented sprint freestyler. She competed at Toyota U.S. Open last fall where she took 15th in the 100 free and 18th in the 50 free. This past summer, she finaled in the 50m/100m/200m free at Minneapolis Futures, finishing as high as 13th in the splash-and-dash.
In SCY, her best times include:
- 50 free – 23.01
- 100 free – 50.36
- 200 free – 1:52.23
In LCM, her best times include:
- 50m free – 26.08
- 100m free – 57.35
- 200m free – 2:05.81
Currently a junior at Edina High School, McCarthy earned a pair of silver medals in the 50 free and 100 free at the 2024 Minnesota Class AA State Championships. She won the 50 free and took second in the 100 free as a sophomore.
