Charlie Ryan (John Ryan) announced his verbal commitment to Michigan State University. Ryan swims for Upper Dublin Aquatic Club and Haverford School.

Ryan shared,

“I chose Michigan State because it provided me with the ability to swim in the Big Ten and get a great education. The coaching staff was incredibly inviting and the team made me feel at home. I am extremely excited to be a Spartan.”

His best times are:

  • 100 Back 50.62
  • 200 Back 1:49.93
  • 200 IM 1:53.22
  • 100 Fly 50.46
  • 200 Fly 1:53.37

Ryan finished in the top 16 in both backstroke events at Speedo Junior Nationals this summer. In February at the 2016 Eastern Interscholastic Swimming Championships, Ryan was third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 100 butterfly. The Haverford School took home runner up honors at that event.

At Big Tens last year, Michigan State had five swimmers in the 100 backstroke. That group was led by Ian Bernardo Rodriguez (48.86), who finished just outside scoring range. He also led the Spartans’ 200 backstroke pack with a 1:46.73.
