Michigan Snags Verbal From North Carolina Independent Schools DI State Champion Matthew Kroll
NEW COMMITS: The University of Michigan will welcome Junior National qualifier Matthew Kroll of Concord, N.C. to Ann Arbor in the fall of 2022 after he sent his verbal commitment to the Wolverines.
He will join Ozan Kalafat, Lucas Hodgson and Logan Zucker as a member of the Class of 2026.
Regarding his commitment, he said:
“Beyond pumped to announce my verbal commitment to continue my swimming and academic career at the University of Michigan! Huge thanks to my family, friends, coaches, and teammates for all of their support! Can’t wait to be part of such a historic team! GO BLUE 〽️〽️”
Kroll competes year-round with SwimMAC Carolina and finished eighth in the 100 breast at Cary Sectionals and earned bronze in both breaststroke events at the 18&U Winter Championships. He also raced to 18th in the 100m breast at Greensboro Futures in 2019.
His best times include:
- 100 breast – 55.09
- 200 breast – 1:58.66
- 200 IM – 1:53.42
- 400 IM – 4:00.87
A rising senior at Cannon School, Kroll is a four-time NCISAA State Championship finalist. He won the 100 breast and 500 free as a junior while taking second in the 200 free and third in the 100 breast in his sophomore campaign.
Kroll will add some much-needed breaststroke depth following the graduations of Will Chan, AJ Bornstein, and Mason Hunter by the time he gets to campus. Under head coach Mike Bottom, the Wolverines finished fourth at the 2021 Big Ten Championships.
