Michigan Secures Verbal from Carmel’s Wyatt Davis for 2020
NEW COMMIT: Carmel, Indiana native and high school junior Wyatt Davis has declared his verbal intention to swim for Michigan and will arrive in Ann Arbor as a member of the class of 2024.
Davis swims year-round for Carmel Swim Club and owns five U.S. Open standards. He most recently competed at Juniors East earlier this month where he finished second in both the 100 back and 200 back as well as ninth in the 200 IM. He posted five second-swims at the American Short Course Championships in March with his highest finish being a fifth-place showing in the 400 IM. He finaled in the 200m back at Nationals this past summer and was invited to the USA Swimming National Select Camp in 2017.
Also competing for Carmel High School, Davis is a four-time Indiana State Championship finalist. He won the 100 back and 200 IM during his sophomore season after earning gold in the 100 back and silver in the 500 free as a freshman. Davis also owns the National High School Public record as a member of Carmel’s 4×50 medley relay and has earned NISCA All-American honors twice in his career.
He told Swimming World:
“Excited to announce that I will be continuing my academic and athletic career at the University of Michigan! Go Blue #smittenbythemitten”
His best times include:
- 100 back – 47.12
- 200 back – 1:43.84
- 200 IM – 1:47.25
- 200 free – 1:37.00
- 200 fly – 1:49.37
Davis will make an immediate impact when he suits up for Michigan at the start of the 2020-21 season. Even with 1.5 years of club swimming still to go, he would’ve scored in the B-final of the 100 back as well as the C-final of the 200 back, 200 IM and 200 free at the 2018 Big Ten Championships.
