Michigan Earns 2025 Verbal Pledge From Open Water Ace William Siegel
NEW COMMIT: The University of Michigan has begun its Class of 2025 recruiting after receiving a verbal commitment from U.S. Open qualifier William Siegel of Merrick, New York.
He trains year-round with Long Island Aquatic Club and was the 2023 Eastern Zone champion on the 5k open water. He also placed ninth in the open water 7.5k at Junior Nationals.
In the pool, he raced to 18th in the mile at Junior Nationals this past summer and 11th in that event at the NCSA Championships back in the spring.
His best times include:
- 1000 free – 9:21.56
- 1650 free – 15:29.75
- 400m free – 4:02.18
- 800m free – 8:18.55
- 1500m free – 15:48.72
Currently a junior at Bellmore-Merrick Central High School, Siegel placed second in the 500 free and sixth in the 200 free at last season’s New York Section VIII Nassau County Championships.
