Michael Phelps and Golf Pro Justin Thomas Hop Into Ice Baths While Discussing Recovery Benefits (Video)
Since exiting the sport as a 28-time Olympic medalist, Michael Phelps has occupied himself with plenty of rounds of golf. This afternoon, the PGA Tour posted a short video on its Twitter feed that shows Phelps discussing the importance of recovery with Justin Thomas, the reigning PGA champion and one of the top players in the world.
Phelps and Thomas specifically speak about the benefits of an ice bath, and hop into a freezing-cold tub during the two-minute video. During his chat with Thomas, Phelps indicated that he works out every day, noting that three of those workouts are lifting sessions, with the other four featuring cardio work. The Olympic legend indicated that working out allows him to be his best self. Phelps also notes that although he has been retired from swimming for six years, ice baths remain a regular part of his recovery process.
Phelps has been a spectator at some of the premier golf tournaments in the world. Meanwhile, Thomas will tee it up later this week at the Tour Championship in Atlanta, which is the final tournament of the PGA’s FedEx Cup Playoffs.
