Michael Collins Named USMS World’s Coach
The USMS Coaches Committee announced three coaches who have been named for the Munich Coaching Program at this summer's World Masters Swimming Championships to be held in Munich Germany July 27-Aug 5, 2000.
The head coach is Michael Collins, who coaches the UCLA Bruin Masters. Well know in Masters coaching and swimming circles, Collins has earned a reputation as one of the country's top coaches and teachers of technique. He was USMS Coach of the Year in 1990 and has served in a multitude of volunteer positions within USMS. He was recently on staff at the USMS/USA
Swimming High Altitude Camps.
Lucy Johnson will serve as an assistant coach. New to the coaching ranks at University of California at Irvine, Johnson has been a competitive swimmer for 40 years. He program, established in April 1999, now has 90 swimmers. She has worked with UCI Swim Camps in video analysis. She has extensive administrative experience within USMS.
Eric Shanks is the second assistant coach, and he hails from Omaha, Neb. He is the coach of Omaha Masters and RNaut Tri Swim. He conducts training
for a 200+ member program and oversees a staff of five part-time coaches. He has coached several top-ranked Masters and open water swimmers.
