Miami (Ohio) Adds Kile Aukerman as Assistant Coach

Kile Aukerman has been hired as an assistant coach on the staff at Miami (Ohio) University, the school announced on Wednesday.

Aukerman joins the staff of Hollie Bonewit-Cron. He has been a volunteer assistant coach at Ohio State and a graduate assistant at Auburn.

“I am extremely excited to be joining the Miami University Swimming and Diving staff. This is an esteemed institution to be a part of, and Hollie and her team are committed to sustained excellence,” Aukerman said in a university statement. “I want to extend my gratitude to Hollie, Jake, Noah and Jason for their warm welcome and trust in me to work with these exceptional athletes. I am eager to get to work and learn from some of the most talented athletes and coaches in the country! Go RedHawks!”

Aukerman has a relatively long history in coaching since graduating from Wright State in 2015, where he served as a two-time captain and received a degree in biological sciences. A six-time program record holder and the 2015 Wright State Athlete of the Year, he continued training for 2016 Olympic Trials at South Florida Aquatic Club. He made Trials in both breaststroke events and the 200 individual medley.

From there, Aukerman coached at Triangle Aquatic Center as an age-group coach. Among his charges there was Claire Curzan. The TAC Titans won consecutive sectional age-group titles under his watch in 2019-20 and continued a streak of eight straight North Carolina age-group championship.

Aukerman jumped into the college realm in 2021-22 as a volunteer assistant and interim director of operations for Ohio State. The Buckeyes won the women’s Big Ten championship that year and finished in the top 10 at NCAAs. At Auburn last year, he helped produce 17 SEC Championship finalists and 21 NCAA qualifiers, helping the Tigers men improve by 105 points from the previous year’s NCAAs to nab a 10th-place finish.

“I am thrilled to have Kile onboard with our program and work with our student-athletes. He brings a wealth of knowledge with having worked previously at Ohio State and Auburn, respectively,” Bonewit-Cron said. “We are excited to have him on staff as we continue the success with our program!”
