Melissa Corfe Prevails in 200 Free at All Africa Games
ALGIERS, Algeria, July 13. SOUTH Africa's Melissa Corfe and Suzaan Van Biljon highlighted action Friday at the All Africa Games, held in Algeria. Corfe took top honors in the 200 freestyle, thanks to a time of 2:02.45, plenty faster than the 2:05.11 registered by Tunisia's Maroua Mathlouthi. As for Van Biljon, she prevailed in the 200 breaststroke with a performance of 2:32.30, ahead of the 2:32.96 of South Africa's Jessica Pengelly.
Mandy Loots was another winner on the female side, taking first place in the 50 butterfly in 27.60. She was joined as a gold medalist by South African countryman Riaan Schoeman, who bested the male field in the 400 individual medley with a swim of 4:21.91. Schoeman also teamed with Darian Townsend, Jean Basson and George du Rand for gold in the 800 free relay (7:31.70). The other male winner was Algeria's Nabil Kebbab in the 200 freestyle (1:50.30).
