Meghan Small, Nick Alexander Named SEC Swimmers of the Week
The Southeastern Conference named seniors Meghan Small of Tennessee and Nick Alexander of Missouri as swimmers of the week. Auburn’s Jack Armstrong and Kentucky’s Caitlin Brooks were named as the freshmen of the week while Texas A&M’s Victor Povzner and Auburn’s Alison Maillard were named divers of the week.
Men’s Swimmer of the Week: Nick Alexander, Missouri
Missouri’s Nick Alexander, a senior from St. Louis, Mo., won two events with nation-leading times in Missouri’s dual win over No. 7 Florida. Alexander took top honors in both the 200 back (1:43.25) and 200 IM (1:46.52) with the fastest times in the nation in both events. He also swam on Missouri’s winning 200 medley relay, which touched in 1:26.59 for the best time in the country this year.
Men’s Diver of the Week: Victor Povzner, Texas A&M
Texas A&M’s Victor Povzner, a freshman from Toronto, Ontario, helped the No. 11 Aggies defeat No. 5 Ohio State with his score of 428.33 to win the 3-meter springboard to begin his collegiate career. Povzner also posted a score of 335.88 in the 1-meter to take fifth place.
Men’s Freshman of the Week: Jack Armstrong, Auburn
Auburn’s Jack Armstrong, a freshman from Manvel, Texas, earned 26 points in Auburn’s win over LSU. Armstrong won the 100 free (44.68) and swam the first leg on the team’s 400 freestyle relay that took first place. He also swam anchor on the 200 medley relay that finished second.
Women’s Swimmer of the Week: Meghan Small, Tennessee
Tennessee’s Meghan Small, a senior from Lineboro, Md., won three individual events in the win over No. 2 Virginia. Small posted B-cut times in the 100 back (53.20 – fourth fastest time in the nation), 200 back (1:55.06 – eighth fastest time in the nation) and the 200 IM (1:58.94 – sixth fastest time in the nation). She was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay (1:37.83 – 24.64).
Women’s Diver of the Week: Alison Maillard, Auburn
Auburn’s Alison Maillard, a senior from Houston, Texas, earned two first-place finishes in Auburn’s win over LSU. Maillard scored a 326.55 in the 1-meter, nine points shy of the all-time Auburn record, and 323.78 in the 3-meter to earn 18 points in the meet.
Women’s Freshman of the Week: Caitlin Brooks, Kentucky
Kentucky’s Caitlin Brooks, a freshman from Gainesville, Fla., remained undefeated in the 100 backstroke with her time of 53.28 in the tri-meet against South Carolina and Ohio. Brooks’ B-cut time in the 100 back is the fifth fastest time in the nation. She was also a part of the winning 200 medley relay, and placed second in the 200 back behind teammate and three-time First Team All-American Ali Galyer (1:58.79).
